The 20 papers of this collection were first presented at the Denton annual conference in implicit religion, perhaps at Middlesex U., UK in 2000. Implicit religion is defined by Bailey, who originated the concept in the 1960s, in his introduction as "any quest for meaning in life, poetic insight, artistic vision, etc." The topics of the present volume include issues of theory and application including ethnic jokes and how they reflect implicit religious values and identity, diffused religion, naturalistic religions, the religion of politics, war memorials, football, and anti-Satanism.
