Lovell a Methodist minister, and Richardson, a British scholar of the New Testament, challenge the assertion that preaching has been made obsolete by new communication technologies and social, cultural, and theological changes. Preaching remains vital to the health of the Church, they insist, and to the spread of the gospel in and beyond the Church. They examine contemporary preaching as a discipline in its own right saying it should be an exercise that draws upon conversations with people in the church and in the world, and should stimulate reflective thought and dialogue between people of all faiths and none.
