An introductory chapter gives a rationale for working within an anti-discriminatory framework and overviews legislation; this third edition takes into account changes in legislation since 2002. After a review of the impact of race, religion, and culture on children's development, the main tenets and cultural practices of 20 major religions are described, from Baha'i through Hare Krishna, Jehovah's Witnesses, Rastafarians, the Unification Church, and Zoroastrianism. Later chapters explore the importance of play in the early years within an anti-discriminatory framework and discuss developmental issues related to identity and self-esteem. Reflection boxes and case studies link theory and practice.
