This text has stood the test of time, the first edition having been published in 1996, and the second in 2001. This third edition, of course, is updated throughout, in particular, its emphasis on three core themes that have evolved in the past decade and are incorporated throughout the text. These themes comprise new standardized measurement instruments, greater emphasis on the notion of recovery and other positive outcomes, and greater emphasis on "the voice of the service user/consumer," that is, their understanding of the outcomes they seek. Chapters are arranged in sections on methodological issues, domains of outcome measurement, symptom severity outcome measures, and international approaches to outcome assessment.
