As a social psychologist from a region that offers a real-world laboratory to study intergroup conflict, Bar-Tal (Tel Aviv U., Israel), seeks to understand the individual and collective dynamics that underlie such conflicts and the barriers and facilitators of peace-making. Following introduction of a conceptual framework for macro-level conflicts, international contributors to 13 chapters examine key issues in conflict generation (including the roots of terrorism), settlement, resolution, and reconciliation from historical, sociological, political, economic, and cultural perspectives.
