Following Israel's December 2010-January 2011 assault on the Gaza Strip, the United Nations commissioned the Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, headed by South African jurist Richard Goldstone. The subsequent report of the Mission charged both Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas with committing crimes against humanity (although Israel's crimes led to far more deaths) and immediately became a subject of great controversy, if often between people who hadn't actually read the report. This volume contains an abridged version of the report, edited so as to be accessible to the general reader and supplements the report with 11 essays considering its legacy from a variety of perspectives. Topics addressed by the essays include the principles of international law invoked in the report, the Israeli critique of the report and a counter-critique, the politicized reception of the report in the United States, Israeli reception of the report, the role of Israeli militarism in eroding liberal support in the West, and a personal account of one family's experience of the Gaza War.
