Lawrence Durrell was born in India in 1912 to British parents. He led a life of travel, living in places such as Corfu, Greece, Paris, Egypt, Rhodes, Yugoslavia, and Cyprus. Durrell became well known as a different breed of travel writer, one who didn't just bounce briefly from place to place, but resided in the places he wrote about.
