Adejunmobi's (African American and African studies, U. of California, Davis) text focuses on arguments over language and identity as they have been presented in literary and cultural studies, and particularly in discussions of postcolonial literatures and cultures. She explores why people continue to produce texts in languages that are not their mother tongues and join organizations that use non-native languages. She investigates whether the increased use of so-called global languages, such as English, signal a decreased attachment to more localized cultures among non-native speakers, and concludes that the use of non- native languages does not necessarily reference identification with foreign cultures.
