Father Joseph T. O'Callahan, the US Navy's first Jesuit chaplain, received the Medal of Honor for his valorous activities on the USS Franklin aircraft carrier (known as Big Ben) when it was attacked by the Japanese during WWII. This biography gives background on his early life and education, details his actions during the attack, and explains the personal aftermath of the attack for Father O'Callahan in terms of chronic pain and other health problems.
