Butcher (emeritus psychology, U. of Minnesota) was invited to be on the committee that revised and restandarized the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), and has written several guides to the most widely used personality assessment tool. This one, an introduction for students, researchers, and clinicians new to it, was first published in 1999 and again in 2006. Here he adds a chapter on an abbreviated version of the test, the Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF), which contains the Fake Bad Scale and the Restructured Clinical Scales, both controversial. New scales have also been added to the full test, and some existing ones revised. Among his perspectives are assessing the validity of test results, code-type interpretation of complex cases, supplemental scales for special problems, various settings and populations, and documenting and explaining the results.
