Roughly 15 percent of military personnel who return from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan will experience significant posttraumatic stress symptoms after their deployment, according to a study cited by the authors. The authors examine the numerous causes and effects of these disorders and emphasize prevention and treatment by better assessment, psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic intervention, and relevant evidence-based treatment.
