Much progress has been made in expanding the scope of women's health beyond reproductive issues, understanding the determinants of health outcomes in women, and treating breast and cervical cancer. On the other hand, inequities persist in the number of women participating in clinical trials, and the extent of disease and access to healthcare among women of different sociodemographic backgrounds. Taking a woman-centered rather than traditional disease-focused approach, this Institute of Medicine report presents findings on these issues and trends, particularly treating how modifiable behavioral factors affect health.
