While not as well known as the art of the Haida, Tlingit, and Tshimshian tribes, the art of the Coast Salish tribes comes from rich, deep-rooted traditions and mythology, and continues to be created today. The 20 contemporary Coast Salish artists presented in this catalog of a 2005 exhibition (organized by the Stoningham Gallery of Seattle) work with traditional media such as basketry, wood carving, and weaving, as well as more modern materials such as acrylic paint, cast and hand blown glass, bronze, and steel. The catalog features beautiful full color images of the art, essays on Coast Salish art traditions, information on each individual artist, and narratives of the legends that are referred to in the artwork.
