A reprint of a book originally published by White Mane Publishing Company, Inc., in 1996, this text draws on personal letters, diaries, and written testimonies of both Confederate and Union soldiers, in telling the story of 600 Southern officers who, denied parole by the North, were held as prisoners of war and forced to endure months of unjustified suffering.
