This resource is for art therapists and other professionals who work with older adults, either one-on-one or in group settings, such as therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, social workers, and gerontologists. Buchalter, a senior clinical therapist at Princeton's University Medical Center, gives instructions for art, music, movement, and writing projects, plus warm-up activities for helping participants express themselves creatively, and tips for engaging participants and overcoming resistance. The creative projects are designed for specific purposes, such as raising self-awareness and self-esteem, reducing stress, coping with change, and reminiscing. Case vignettes show reactions of seniors to working in art and include examples of artwork by older adults. The creative projects can also be adapted to use with other populations.
