Green Chimneys is a US nonprofit organization that brings animals and environmental activities into the lives of at-risk urban children. Founded in 1948 by the author when he was just 20 years old, the organization now operates more than 20 different programs, including an international intern program, and is recognized as an international leader in animal-assisted therapy and activities. Here, the author recounts the experiences that led him to found the school, describes the growth of the school, and offers inspiration to all who work with troubled children and who believe in the healing power of the natural world.
