American teachers of English, German, and Scandinavian literature provide a resource for North American students who are dipping into Old Norse-Icelandic literature from a wide variety in backgrounds--for example those with little or no knowledge of German or Scandinavian language, and those fluent in the language but with little background in literary criticism. The survey essays and bibliographies cover mythology and mythography, eddic and skaldic poetry, kings' and family sagas, and Norse romance.
