Georg Franz Hein, a German-Jewish refugee during the Nazi era, was only 20 years old when he joined the British Royal Air Force under an assumed identity: Peter Stevens. Over the course of two years, he flew 22 combat missions against the country of his birth and was eventually shot down and captured as a British POW by the Nazis in 1941. For almost four years, Stevens hid his true identity from his captors. He organized several escapes from POW camps in Germany, but while others escaped, he was always caught. After the war, he was awarded England's Military Cross. The book includes b&w historical photos, personal photos, and documents. Author Marc Stevens is the son of Peter Stevens.
