In 1950s New York, set against the backdrop of McCarthyism and the dawning sexual revolution, 16-year-old Jamie's life is unsettled since her father returned from serving time in prison for refusing to disclose the names of certain people as Communists, and her best friend turns to Jamie for help with an unplanned pregnancy.
