Both women and men work together advocating for animals unable to speak on their own behalves, but volunteers in this field are overwhelmingly female. Kemmerer (philosophy and religions, Montana State U.-Billings) intentionally sought out women's voices for addressing animal advocacy concerns as she put together this anthology. Drawing parallels to a patriarchal climate of power and economics where men hold the "lion's share" of control, specifically in animal industries, she brings attention to issues of abuse, oppression, exploitation and harm inflicted on those unable to speak for themselves, and does it with feminist-activist-female passion.
