In this history for general readers, Rubillo, a retired attorney from South Carolina, recounts about 30 major hurricanes that have hit the state since the 1800s to the recent aftermath of Hurricane Hugo, as well as broad descriptions of hurricanes from the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries. He integrates first-person accounts, excerpts from historical documents, a description of storm formation, and color and b&w photos of destruction. The book lacks an index.
