They critically examine the role of the United States in supporting the "narco-bourgeoisie" of Columbia in particular, whose interests include exploiting the landless poor for labor in coca production and crushing the rebel groups like FARC that would organize revolution. They consider the advent of the cocaine industry from coca cultivation, the relationship between the "narco-state" and "narco-economy," "Plan Columbia," and the privatization and corporatization of the American war on drugs.
