Twenty-seven academics, researchers, and practitioners from the US, Mexico, and Canada contribute 18 chapters summarizing for speech-language pathologists the current research on language development and disorders in Spanish-English bilingual children and its implications for assessment and intervention. The 12 original chapters from the 2004 edition have been updated with current data. The second edition also features six new chapters adding historical perspectives and further grounding in the neurolinguistic foundations of language learning and bilingualism, addressing in greater depth the important roles of cross-linguistic influence and code-switching, enhancing the review of research on literacy development in Spanish-English bilinguals, and providing current perspectives on the educational settings in which bilingual children learn and training approaches for professionals who educate and deliver other services to bilingual children.
