The story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the Corps of Discovery is well-known to Americans. While much has been written about Meriwether Lewis the explorer, much less is known about Lewis the man. Danisi, an independent scholar and freelance writer, may not have written the first book attempting to delve into the personal life of Lewis--but he did uncover documentation that appears to shed new light on him, such as his court martial early in his career, that he suffered from malaria for most of his life, and a well-documented re-evaluation of his controversial death.
