This is an English translation of part of a key work on Islamic jurisprudence written by the Andalusian Sunni legal scholar, Imam Abu Ishaq al-Shatibi (d. 1388). The Reconciliation of the Fundamentals of Islamic Law was written by al-Shatibi to elaborate, in five parts, on "the fundamental concepts of the discipline; the ahkam (rules) and what is related to them; the legal purposes of the shari`a and the ahkam related to them; the comprehensive the treatment of the adilla (evidences); and the rules of ijtihad and taqlid." This volume contains the first two parts (on fundamental concepts and rules), while later sections of the work will appear in other volumes. Distributed in North America by ISBS.
