This superb textbook surveys the rich archaeological record of Oregon, with each chapter focused on a separate geographic region, describing both Native and non-Native activity and settlements into the early 20th century. Aikens (emeritus, anthropology, U. of Oregon) and co-authors Thomas J. Connolly and Dennis L. Jenkins (both are with the U. of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History) have done an impressive job of summarizing a vast amount of material into a readable and authoritative text, with lengthy, chronological overviews of the region provided at the outset of each chapter, followed by separate sections devoted to the individual sites.
