They focus on specific pathogens with one of the following characteristics: they have not been discussed in the previous volume Fish Diseases and Disorders, Vol. 1: Protozoan and Metazoan Infections, are relatively well-studied and may serve as models for studies of other parasites, cause considerable financial problems to the aquaculture industry, have been accidentally introduced to new geographical regions through the transportation of infected fish, are disease agents to specific groups of fish, are not host-specific and have worldwide distributions, and are facultative parasites which are emerging as important pathogens.
