This collection of seventeen articles is presented by editors Cannizzaro (international and European Union law, U. of Rome, Italy), Palchetti (international law, U. of Macerata, Italy), and Wessel (law of the European Union and other international organizations, U. of Twente, the Netherlands) with three aims: to assess the conceptual framework of the relation between international law and the domestic law of the European Union, to analyze the content and function of the EU's constitutional rules concerning its relation with international law and its ability to respond to contemporary challenges, and how to coordinate the effect of legal obligations in the international arena between the EU and its constituent states.
