Liebelt (social anthropology, U. of Bayreuth, Germany) studies Filipina migrants employed in providing care to the elderly and doing domestic work in Israel. She investigates care ethnographically, looks at Filipina care-workers as neither mere victims of globalization nor unhindered creative transnationals, and argues that practices and orientations of the migrants change throughout the migration process. Her topics include foreign workers and migrants, transnational female lives, caring for the 'Holy Land,' the making and unmaking of a Filipino community, living in hiding and appropriating the black part of the white city, and global dreaming.
