Originally from England, Wallace has lived in the US since 1978, and is the author of seven books, including works on regional history, travel, and historical fiction. She presents a look back at interesting events and individuals characterizing Denver in its first decades, from its establishment in the 1850s to the early 20th century. Based on research and information from descendants of the city's settlers, the text examines why people came to the area, relations with the native inhabitants, key personalities, prejudices, the arrival of the railroad, businesses, crime and punishment, sports and recreation, religion and charitable organizations, and water issues.
