In order to encourage more balance and depth in the treatment of fertility in populations studies, contributors from social and biological sciences suggest that many fertility behaviors that concern demographers may follow biodemographic templates, are influenced by genetic endowments, are triggered through hormonal pathways, and have been shaped in specific directions through the course of human evolution.
