The first part of the book explains major factors in infant mental health, such as emotional dysregulation and aggression, maternal depression, and exposure to direct and indirect trauma. This section also discusses using risk and resilience models to promote mental health, and assessing young children's social and emotional development and their relationships with primary caregivers. Part 2 describes intervention strategies and organizational supports, with chapters on infant mental health consultation and interventions in early childhood programs. There is also discussion of organizational readiness, the staff's mental health needs, and evaluation of infant mental health programs. The text includes b&w photos.
