Resulting from a two-year research study on "Globalization, Democracy, Citizenship, Gender and Peace Studies," this book focuses on one segment of the study devoted to women's issues in South Asia, the Indian borderlands in particular. Six contributions address the borders of West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Northeast. The concluding two essays comprise personal narratives of women in the borderlands themselves. The two editors are affiliated with the Mahanirban Caluctta Research Group, which sponsored the study; Paula Banerjee is also affiliated with the U. of Calcutta and with the International Association for Study of Forced Migration.
