Educator, linguist, and folklorist Fortier (1856-1914) fought continuously to preserve French in Louisiana. Part of that effort is this 1895 collection of 41 folktales. In the first two parts, animal tales and märchen, the French Creole and Fortier's English translation are on facing pages. For the final section, bits of Louisiana folk-lore, the translations follow.
