This text is for undergraduate psychology and nonpsychology majors and graduate students new to the field of health psychology. It intersperses clinical case examples with classic and recent literature, focusing on a patient-oriented perspective and individual psychology. There is also coverage of interpersonal relationships and of individuals within social structures, cultural settings, societal institutions, and systems of medical care. In addition to treating Western medicine, the text also discusses non-Western approaches. Professional development issues are also examined.
