His treatment is based on the assumption "that the best way to analyze the American political economy is to investigate government, business, and the complex yet subtle relationships between these two institutions" and the text is therefore structured into sections focusing in turn on the environment for government-business relations, corporate activities in the political arena, and government policy impacts on business.
