The workshop, part of a Coptic studies conference, deal with the historical context of the oriental riding costume, the history of Antinoopolis, original pieces in various collections, and representations of riding costume on monuments both in Egypt and within the Sasanian Empire. Seven of the 16 papers are in English. They consider the origin of Persian riding coats with sleeves and underarm openings, a green riding coat fragment in the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, gaiters from Antinoopolis in the Museum für Byzantinishe Kunst in Berlin, radiocarbon dating two Sasanian coats and three post-Sasanian tapestries, and Heron's military costume in wall paintings from Roman period Karanis.
