This volume was formulated as an academic tribute to the late British scholar of French literature, Elizabeth Fallaize. In addition to containing remembrances of Fallaize and her contributions to the field, nine essays are presented that explore topics within Fallaize's main areas of interest: Simone de Beauvoir studies, short fiction, and women's writing. Specific topics discussed include the intellectual influences on Beauvoir's The Second Sex; feminist analysis of the short fiction of Balzac and Maupassant; common feminist themes of aging in the works of film director Agnés Varda and writers Colette and Nancy Huston; and ideological implications of narrative form and textuality, particularly in relation to sexual politics.
