Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and started his career as a journalist there. He was married in Richmond, wrote his first poems there, and gave his last public reading in his home town. Semtner, curator of the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, details Poe's life in Richmond and looks at how Poe's Richmond years shaped his writing.
