The Kindertransport movement, in which British families fosteredJewish refugee children during the Holocaust years, was an ad hocsolution to what was supposed to be a temporary problem. Basedon interviews and archival research, Baumel-Schwartz(contemporary Jewish history, Bar-Ilan University, Israel), whosesiblings came to the US as refugees, provides a balanced,longitudinal study of the experiences of these children, the diversemotivations of those who took them in, and the rescuebureaucracy.
