Kaufmann and Schwitters (both Seminole State College of Florida) present a textbook for a college algebra course that serves as a prerequisite for the calculus sequence or that satisfies a liberal arts requirement. The four unifying ideas are solving equations and inequalities, solving problems, developing graphing techniques, and developing and using the concept of a function. This edition, revised from the 2009 seventh, identifies the objectives of each section, classroom example problems in the instructor's manual to supplement those in the text, and chapter summaries. Changes in content also reflect comment by users. The topics include a review of some basic concepts of algebra, coordinate geometry and graphing techniques, polynomial and rational functions, systems of equations, conic sections, and sequences and mathematical induction.
