In 1954, toward the end of his life, Reuben Iceland (1884-1955) published this memoir in Yiddish, which was the language he had worked to streamline and preserve, and was the language of his poetry. He and fellow poets came together in New York in 1907, to form Di Yunge (the young ones)--a group of poets of Eastern European heritage, distinguished by their distinctly American focus on exploration of the individual.
