McDermott, a Vietnam combat veteran, is now a clinical psychologist who treats combat veterans with PTSD. In this guide written for veterans and families, students, and professionals, he writes in terms accessible to readers with a college education, using many case examples and narratives to explain the use of psychotherapy and cognitive psychotherapy for those suffering from combat-related PTSD.
