In these proceedings of the seminar held in London in July 2003, participants present papers on the general topics of southern Arabia, ceramics in Yemen and trade in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, southeastern and eastern Arabia, and aspects of the Arabic and Nabataean languages. Topics include new perspectives on the prehistory of Hadramawt, an Abraha inscription from the Great Dam of Marib, a study of eighteenth-century patronage in the second century of the Qasimi imamate, and artistic novelty in a traditional craft. Papers on trade include a re-examination of the first millennium BC amphora trade between south Arabia and east Africa. Researchers describe their excavations at Abu Dhabi Airport, burial sites, and botanical records. Articles on language include new research into of translation and linguistic archaeology.
