The US Naval Academy Class of 2002, graduated directly into the war on terror. Editor Welle, president of that class, collects first-person accounts of junior officers from the Academy's Class of 2002 as they found courage, tragedy, and sometimes humor on the front lines and at home. There are also stories by the mothers of fallen officers. The first chapter portrays daily life at the Naval Academy in Annapolis and how life changed there after the 9/11 attacks. The narratives and profiles are then grouped in sections on leadership at sea, courage under fire, disaster relief and peacekeeping operations, teamwork and sacrifice, and decisions to stay in the military or move into civilian life.
