Kersey (early childhood education, Old Dominion U.) and Masterson (early childhood education, Dominican U.) offer administrators and teachers in early childhood, preschool, and primary grades settings, as well as education students, a text that identifies 101 principles related to positive, relational behavior guidance and responsive teaching. They aim to help teachers become more responsive, tuned in to the developmental needs of children, and more thoughtful and intentional in interactions with children and families, and describe principles to help them build social-emotional competence and a positive classroom community and understand the philosophy of relational respect, resulting in fewer punitive practices.
