VanTassel-Baska (gifted education, College of William and Mary) and education and educational psychology scholars from the US provide teachers and administrators with examples and strategies for implementing the Common Core State Standards for English language arts with gifted and advanced leaders in grades K-12. They discuss how to use the strategies in various settings, such as cluster-grouped classrooms, pull-out programs, and special classes and schools, and incorporate them with gifted education curricula, instruction, and program models. They present examples of the relevant standards, which are linked to suggested activities for typical learners and differentiated for advanced learners, and outline assessment examples, including rubrics, related material on twenty-first century skills, the rationale for the book, using cross-disciplinary content and integrating standards, implications for professional learning, collaboration with general and special education, and resources.
