Johnsen (educational psychology, Baylor U.) and Sheffield (mathematics education, Northern Kentucky U.), along with a group of education scholars from the US, supply teachers and administrators with examples and strategies for implementing the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics with gifted and advanced leaders in grades K-12 in different settings, from cluster-grouped classrooms to pull-out programs to special classes and schools, and integrate them with gifted education curricula, instructional practices, and program models. They give examples of the relevant standards, which are matched to activities for typical learners and differentiated for advanced learners. They also present assessment examples, including rubrics, and related material on twenty-first century skills. They describe the research support for the book, how to link math and English language arts standards, implications for professional learning, collaboration with general and special education, and resources to assist with implementation.
