Humanities professor, Robert Emmet Meagher, and former Frommer's guide-writer turned elementary school teacher, Elizabeth Parker Neave, present a travel guide to Ireland that focuses on sites, geography, and stories of ancient Ireland. The first few chapters offer advice to the world traveler in Ireland and orient the reader to the historical, literary and geographic contexts explored in the book. The majority of the text consists of three brilliantly illustrated travel itineraries that are organized chronologically: ancient times 4000-700BCE, pre-Christian Celtic times 700BCE-400CE, and early Christian to medieval times (400-1200CE). The itineraries are for 7-day trips, and each trip assumes hitting specific sites in a timely manner. Maps of routes are provided and along the way, they explain what there is to see, indicating specific sites to explore and suggesting places to find lodging or food.
