<div> For seafood production to meet expected demand from a growing global population, many more millions of tons of seafood will need to be produced. The expectations for increased product from capture fisheries is limited, so this rise in production will have to come from aquaculture, one of the fastest growing food producing sectors in the world. A primary constraint to the continuing growth of aquaculture is the supply of juveniles from hatcheries.<BR> <br> The editors and contributors review current and emerging technologies in key areas of hatchery production, which they first covered in a previous book, "New technologies in aquaculture" (CRC Press/Woodhead Publishing, 2009). Part one reviews reproduction and larval rearing, aquaculture hatchery water supply and treatment systems, principles of finfish broodstock management, genome preservation, varied aspects of feed and diet, larval health management and microbial management for bacterial pathogen control. Closing the life-cycle and overcoming challenges in hatchery production for selected invertebrate species are the focuses of part two, which discusses lobster larval rearing, shrimp, blue mussel and sea cucumber hatcheries, juvenile cephalopod production, and jellyfish as products and problems of aquaculture. The remaining sections consider life-cycle closure and challenges in hatchery production for selected fish species, including tuna, striped catfish, meager, and yellowtail kingfish and explore aquaculture hatcheries for conservation and education.</div>
